Minecraft Online: The Minecraft servers that you can’t go home from
The servers are still working on the launch of Minecraft Online, but the game’s creators say that servers are being upgraded and new features are coming soon.
“We are currently in the process of upgrading and adding new features to Minecraft, so we don’t know how long the update will take,” Mojang cofounder and CEO Markus Persson wrote in a post to the Minecraft subreddit.
The update will be announced “in the next few days.”
A Minecraft blog post from March shows that the Minecraft servers are “coming soon.”
A recent post by Minecraft’s team on Facebook says the game will have “major updates” in June and will be available for “a very long time.”
In another post from April, the Minecraft team said the game “has reached a point where we have more server capacity than we have servers” and is “working towards a 100% load on all servers, with no more than 30 to 40 percent of players able to login and play.”
It’s not clear what the update to Minecraft Online will mean for online gaming, but there’s been talk that Minecraft Online could replace Steam or Steam Machines as the most popular games on the platform.
Minecraft has been the subject of a lawsuit, and Minecraft creator Markus Perssson is facing criminal charges in Sweden for allegedly sexually exploiting children.
The lawsuit has not been filed, but Persson has been in jail in Sweden since December.
